Quark Expeditions charters Russian nuclear icebreaker
US operator Quark Expeditions has chartered the recently delivered Russian nuclear powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy (50 Years of Victory) for three cruises to the North Pole this summer.
The Murmansk Shipping Co owned icebreaker, the largest of the Arktika-class and the most powerful and modern of her type in the world, has just been refitted to carry passengers and now features an aft passenger saloon, forward lounge, bar, library, gym, shop and indoor swimming pool. A total of 128 passenger can be carried in 64 cabins in five different classes are available.
The maiden North Pole cruise of 50 Let Pobedy is a 16 day fly-cruise, 23 June-8 July. Passengers will be flown from Helsinki to Murmansk and back via charter aircraft. The two remaining cruises this years include another 16-day trip, 6 July-21 July and a 17 day trip 19 July-4 August.
